Filling a customer in from the Cyprus company register

A new customer usually means typing the company name, the address and the registration number from a document. Instead, search the official register and pick the company: everything it holds goes into the form.

On the website

1. Go to Customers → New customer.
2. Click Find company under the Company field.
3. Type a few letters of the name, in Greek or English, or the registration number (ΗΕ 12345, HE12345 or just 12345).
4. Click the right company. The name, registered address, postcode, town, country and registration number are filled in.
5. Add whatever the register does not hold — phone, e-mail, contacts — and save.

The VAT number

The register does not hold VAT numbers; those belong to the Tax Department. Next to the VAT field there is Check VAT, which asks the EU's VIES service whether a number is valid. Where the country publishes them, the registered name and address come back too and you can put them straight into the customer.

What is in the register

• Companies (ΗΕ), business names (ΕΕ), partnerships (Σ) and overseas companies (ΑΕ).
• Over 300,000 entries: everything on the register except entities that were struck off.
• The registered office address, which is the address the Registrar holds — not always where the business actually sits.
• The status, so you can see when something is not simply "Εγγεγραμμένη" (registered).

The data is the open data of the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property, published on data.gov.cy under CC BY 4.0. It is refreshed every month, so a company registered in the last few weeks may not be there yet — type it in by hand and it will be found next time.
