Selling at the till: open, sell, close the shift
Open the till with the cash in the drawer, ring up sales with a scanner or a tap, and close the shift with a Z report.
The till runs in the browser of any computer or tablet in the shop. Every sale becomes a paid invoice in your workspace, so your VAT reports, customer statements and accounts are up to date without typing anything again.
Opening the till
- Go to Point of Sale → Register.
- Pick the till, type the Cash in the drawer now and press Start selling.
Ringing up a sale
- Scan a barcode, type a name or code in the search box (
F8jumps there), or tap a product on the left. - Change a quantity or a line price on the sale if you need to. Use Discount for the whole sale, as a percent or an amount.
- Leave the customer as Walk-in customer, or search for one by name or by the last digits of a mobile number.
- Press Pay (F2), pick the method and the amount given. Add another method splits a payment, for example part cash and part card. The change is worked out for you.
- Press Finish the sale. The receipt prints and the shelf goes down.
Serial numbers, IMEIs and notes
For phones, laptops and anything else sold with a code of its own, open the product and set Serial / IMEI at the sale to Ask or to Required, one for every piece. The till then shows a box under the product as soon as it is on the sale.
- Scan or type one code per line. A scanner presses Enter after each code, and once every piece has its code the cursor goes back to the search box.
- With Required the sale cannot be paid until each piece has a code. With Ask the box can stay empty or hold a short note, such as a colour.
- The codes print on the receipt and on the invoice. Type part of one in the search box of Sales to find the sale.
- On a return, the codes of the pieces that come back are kept on the return and its credit note.
A product that is not in the catalogue yet
Press + beside the search box. Type the name and the price, pick the VAT, and if you like a barcode, a category and the stock that is on the shelf now. Save and add to the sale saves the product to your catalogue and puts it on the sale. A barcode that already belongs to another product is refused, so a scan never picks the wrong one. Adding products needs the right to create products in the staff role.
Put aside (F4) parks a sale while the customer fetches something else, so you can serve the next person. Open it again from the Put aside list.
Cash in and out
Money taken out for the bank or put in for change goes through Cash in or out, with a reason. It is counted in the drawer total, so the shift still adds up.
Closing the shift
- Press Close the shift.
- Count the drawer and type what is Counted in the drawer. The till shows what should be there and the difference.
- Press Close and print. The Z report prints with the sales, the payment methods, the VAT and the cash.
Every shift and its Z report stay under Point of Sale → Shifts, and every sale under Point of Sale → Sales, with its receipt and its invoice.
Who may do what
Staff roles decide who may sell, give a discount or change a price, take goods back, void a sale and close a shift. Under Setup → Point of Sale → Who sells where you choose the shops each person may sell from.
